Dismissal Information

Some violations may be able eligible to be dismissed by the Court. The following can be dismissed with certain documentation:

  • No Insurance
  • Expired Driver’s License/No Driver’s License
  • Expired Motor Vehicle Registration
  • Expired Motor Vehicle Inspection (less than 60 days)
  • Failure to Change Address on Driver’s License
  • Failure to Display Driver’s License
  • Operating a Vehicle without/with only one License Plate
  • Display Altered, Unclean, or Obscured License Plate
  • Violate Driver’s License Restriction
  • Operating Vehicle with Defective Equipment

No Insurance: A citation for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility may be dismissed at no charge if the Defendant provides the Court proof of coverage for the date and time of the violation on the vehicle or defendant. The coverage must be verified with the insurance company before dismissal is granted. Proof must be brought to the court or mailed. No faxed copies will be accepted.

Expired DL/Expired LP Registration/Expired Vehicle Inspection Sticker:
A citation for Expired Driver’s License, Expired Registration, or Expired Inspection Sticker (not expired more than 60 days), may be dismissed for a $20.00 Administration Fee if the Defendant complies with the following requirements:

  • The violation is corrected within twenty (20) working days of the citation;
  • The Defendant provides the court with proof of this correction by the appearance date; and
  • The Defendant pays a $20.00 Administration Fee for dismissal.

Failure to Display DL / Fail to Change Address on Driver’s License: A citation for Failure to Display Driver’s License may be dismissed at no charge with the following requirements:

  • The defendant provides the Court proof of a Driver’s License that was valid at time of citation by the appearance date
  • The address is corrected within twenty (20) working days of the citation through the Texas Department of Public Safety;
  • The Defendant provides the court with proof of the address change (new paper license) by the appearance date.

Operating a Vehicle without/with only one License Plate: A citation for Operating a Vehicle without license plates or with only one license plate may be dismissed for a $20.00 Administration Fee with the following requirements:

  • The violation is corrected within 10 business days;
  • Must provide the court proof that the registration was current at time of violation;
  • Registration insignia must be attached to vehicle before 1st court appearance;
  • Payment of $20.00 Administration Fee

Display Altered, Unclean, or Obscured License Plate: A citation for Displaying altered, unclean or obscured license plates may be dismissed for a $10.00 Administration Fee with the following requirements:

  • Remedy before 1st court appearance
  • Pay $10.00 Administration Fee
  • Clerk must determine that violation has been corrected

Violate Driver’s License Restriction: A citation for a violation of driver’s license restriction may be dismissed for a $10.00 Administration Fee with the following requirements:

  • Remedy before 1st court appearance
    • Endorsement was imposed only because of a physical condition that was corrected before the offense or it was imposed in error;
  • Must have DPS remove endorsement before 1st court appearance
  • Pay $10.00 Administration Fee

Operate Vehicle with Defective Equipment: A citation for defective equipment may be dismissed for a $10.00 Administration Fee with the following requirements:

  • Remedy before 1st court appearance
  • Pay $10.00 Administration Fee
  • Clerk must determine that violation has been corrected
